1353317 Enzyme-polymer complexes KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE GIST-EN SPIRITUSFABRIEK NV 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 10240/70 Heading C3H [Also in Division C5] Complexes which are useful in formulating washing compositions comprise an enzyme, in particular a proteolytic enzyme, complexed with an aqueous alkali-soluble polymer having a straight or branched carbon chain with carboxylic groups attached thereto and which may also contain other substituents, e.g. substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon groups or which is interrupted by hetero atoms, the polymer having a M.Wt. of at least 10,000 and containing no covalent bonds between the enzyme and polymer. Suitable polymers are acrylic and methacrylic acid polymers and copolymers thereof and of maleic acid with styrene, ethylene or methyl vinyl ether. Enzymes referred to include proteases, lipases, and amylases including those produced by various bacilli. The complexes may be made by contacting the enzyme with a solution of the polymer and precipitating the complex, e.g. by addition of an organic non- solvent therefor such as acetone or ethanol, or by adding a metal ion, e.g. Al<SP>+++</SP>, Fe<SP>+++</SP>, Cr<SP>++</SP><SP>+</SP> or Zr<SP>+++</SP>. The use of such metal ions gives rise to modified complexes in which the metal is present. |
