PURPOSE:To obtain the title resin having good properties while reducing the amount of a chlorofluorohydrocarbon having a fear of destroying the ozone layer by using water as a blowing agent and a specified polyol having a high functionality and a high hydroxyl number as part of an active hydrogen compound. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a rigid expanded synthetic resin by reacting an active hydrogen compound having at least two NCO-reactive active hydrogen-containing functional groups with a polyisocyanate compound in the presence of a blowing agent, wherein at least 3 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. active hydrogen compound, water is used as part or the whole of said blowing agent, and a polyol having a hydroxyl value of 700 mg KOH/g or more and a functionality of 4 or more (e.g. a polyol obtained by reacting sucrose, sorbitol or methylglycoside with ethylene oxide) is used as part of said active hydrogen compound. According to the above process, an expanded synthetic resin having good properties can be produced, while the amount of a chlorofluorohydrocarbon such as B-11 having a fear of destroying the ozone layer can effectively be reduced. |
