Method extracting tin from its ores which usually contain SiO2 and FeO in which ore is heated in an electric furnace to above 1500 degrees C to reduce the Si (sic) when the tin appears as SnO on recovery from the silicate and is recovered as SnO2. The latter is reduced in a second conventional treatment. The process is not subject to the objections occurring when the tin is recovered as sulphide or chloride using similar techniques viz noxious fumes and corrosive acid vapours.
