Reactor fuelling machine - for high temp gas cooled reactor with prismatic block fuel

The machine comprises an upper hoist section and lower magazine storage section each of which is separately transported by a carriage and gantry to off-reactor service stations or on reactor fuel standpipes. The relative movement and use of the machine sections is carried out to a precise pattern to effect simultaneously separate operations at service stations and combined operations at the stand-pipes and produces an overall reduced fuel cycle time. The machine sections are always transported separately by the carriage and gantry and in consequence the weight loaded requirements are less than they would be for a unified machine. New fuel loading and irradiated fuel discharge are effected by the magazine section at the off-reactor service stations and fuel standpipe preparation and fuel handling by the upper section.
