<p>Ferro-chrome, pref. having a high carbon content, in powder form of particle dia. 0.149 mm is oxidised in a fluidised bed using the exothermic autoxidation of the chrome to perpetuate the reaction. The conditions in the fluidised bed are controlled at a constant (plus-or-minus 20 degrees C) temp. in the range 800-1050 degrees C by control of the fluidising gas composition e.g. by addition of N2, H2O etc. to the O2, and by monitoring feeds of more ferro-chrome and conseq. of dwell-time of the ferro-chrome in the oxidn. zone. Fluidisation gas pref. has a space velocity of 11-40 cm/sec.</p> |
