摘要 <p>1311013 Polymerizing olefins FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 12 June 1970 [12 June 1969] 28644/70 Heading C3P Low molecular weight olefin polymers are prepared by solution polymerization of olefins at 110‹ to 180‹ C. and pressures up to 50 atmospheres in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) a reaction product of a titanium tetrahalide and a magnesium alcoholate and (B) an organo aluminium compound and hydrogen as molecular weight regulator in such an amount that the waste gas remaining after polymerization contains at least 60 volume per cent of hydrogen. Specified olefins are ethylene, propylene, butene, pentene, 4-methylpentene-1 and octene-1. The magnesium alcoholate may be derived from methanol, ethanol, propanols, butanols or #- phenylethanol, and may be a half halide, sulphate or carboxylate. The aluminium compound may be an aluminium trialkyl or a dialkyl hydride or alkyl halide. The process may be effected batchwise or continuously in hydrocarbon liquids, and the products purified by treating with alcohols and/or steam distilling. Many suitable catalyst ingredients are specified, and examples describe the polymerization of (1 to 5) ethylene and (6) ethylene and propylene in the presence of catalysts formed from magnesium ethylate and titanium tetrachloride with (1, 2 and 6) triisobutyl aluminium, (3 and 4) diisobutyl aluminium hydride and (5) triethyl aluminium, or from (2) magnesium propylate and titanium tetraohloride with isoprenyl aluminium.</p>
