The device is for fitting press studs to flat materials, and has an upper tool (6) and a lower tool (7). The upper tool (6) is operated by a motor through a rod mechanism (9) to press against the lower tool (7). Two magazines (12) containing the upper and lower halves of the press studs are connected by supply rails (13, 14) to a sorting mechanism (15). The sorting mechanism is programmed to feed any required number of stud uppers followed by any required number of lowers to the upper tool (6) for fixing to the material. The machine allows both press stud uppers and lowers to be fitted to materials, such as leather, textiles or plastic, on one machine. This saves the expense of two separate machines and the time required for stacking between fitting the upper and lower studs.
