1514657 Substituted acetic acid esters SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 5 Oct 1976 [21 Oct 1975] 41347/76 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] Compounds of the general formula where R 1 and R 2 are each H, halogen, C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, -CN, -NO 2 , CH 3 S-, C 2-5 alkanoyl, C 2-5 alkanoyloxy or (C 1-4 alkoxy)-carbonyl or, taken together, may form a methylenedioxy, C 3-5 alkylene or -CH = CH-CH = CH- radical; R 3 is C 2-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl, propargyl, cyclo C 3-6 alkyl or cyclopropylmethyl; R 4 is H, halogen, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 ; R 5 is allyl, propargyl, 3-butenyl, 3- butynyl, phenyl or benzyl; and A is O or S or a -CH = CH- radical, are prepared by reaction of an acid of formula or a reactive derivative thereof, with an alcohol, halide or sulphonate of formula where X is -OH, halogen, alkylsulphonyloxy or arylsulphonyloxy. The reactive derivative of the acid may be an acid halide or anhydride or an alkali metal, silver or tertiary amine salt. Reaction of the free acid is usually effected in a solvent and in the presence of a dehydrating agent such as dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and reaction of the acid halide, in the presence of a tertiary amine. The compounds have insecticidal properties. |
