1515064 1,3 - Dihydrofuro[3,4-b]quinoxaline 4,9-dioxides PFIZER Inc 29 July 1976 [6 Aug 1975] 01504/78 Divided out of 1515063 Heading C2C Novel compounds of the Formula II wherein X is H, F, Cl, Br, hydroxy, nitro, alkyl or alkoxyl and R<SP>1</SP> is alkoxy, where alkyl groups have 1 to 5 carbon atoms, may be prepared by reacting a compound I wherein Y is hydroxy, formylox or C 2-6 alkanoyloxy with a C 1-5 alkanoyl in the presence of a strong acid. The intermediates I are disclosed and claimed in Specification 1,515,063. Pharmaceutical compositions of the compounds II with the usual excipients show antibacterial activity when administered orally or parenterally. The compounds also promote growth in animals when administered in food or drinking water. The compounds also show in vitro antibacterial activity and may be used in water treatment, slime control and paint and wood preservation. |
