<p>1515424 Incinerators ANTI-POLLUTION SYSTEMS Inc 15 April 1976 [17 April 1975] 15510/76 Heading F4B In an incinerator for burning solid and liquid waste, e.g. sewage sludge, within a combustion chamber fired by a burner 22, the waste gases leaving the chamber are cleaned by passing them through a catalytic molten salt bath 27, said cleaned gases thereafter being discharged to atmosphere by way of one or more cyclone blowers 65. Waste material 33 is introduced into the combustion chamber through a feed pipe 24 on to a splash plate 25 having deflectors 26 which direct the waste towards the centre of a base plate 28. Air intakes 59 are disposed on either side of the burner 22. Waste gases leave the combustion chamber through openings 37 and 43 defined between pairs of lateral plates 36, 38 and 42, 44 and are constrained to pass through the molten salt bath 27 with the aid of baffles 46, 47. The molten salt bath 27 is arranged to be in heat exchange relationship with the burning waste 33 so that it can give heat to and/or receive heat from said waste. Pressure sensitive by-pass valves 58 (a) act as a safety release in the event of an increase in pressure within the combustion chamber and (b) provide a path direct to atmosphere during start-up when the molten salt bath would be solidified. Ash is removed from the incinerator via an access port 51.</p> |
