At issue here is a luminaire for a fluorescent lamp, which has a mounting strip and a luminaire bar. The mounting strip offers two different possibilities for mounting, without the type of mounting chosen being detectable from outside. For this purpose, the mounting rail (1) has a U-shaped cross-section. Outwardly projecting strips (4) are provided at approx. half the height H/2 of the lateral jaw (2) of this mounting rail. When the luminaire for a fluorescent lamp is finally mounted, the edges (7) of the jaws (13) of the luminaire bar (6) bear against these strips. Depending on the chosen type of mounting, the mounting rail bears with its web directly against a wall or a ceiling, or else it forms a channel with said wall or ceiling. Such a channel can be used to guide lines, and this is important when a plurality of luminaires are laid in series to form a long row of luminaires. <IMAGE>
