STRETCHER SUSPENSION APPARATUS

A stretcher suspension apparatus for ambulance vehicles is disclosed in which the stretcher is held at a position which is laterally offset from the main structural and suspension elements. The latter comprise a frame fixed to the ambulance, a carriage which is vertically movable with respect to the frame, and air spring suspension means connected between the two. Extending laterally from the carriage is a stretcher support platform on which a patient and stretcher may be loaded. The platform may be lowered substantially to the floor of the ambulance for convenient loading of the stretcher, and subsequently raised for transport. Variable and/or constant damping means may be provided to damp oscillation of the stretcher.
