PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition having an improved activity by carrying out roasting and subsequently enzymatically treating vegetable seeds, etc., adding a vegetable oil thereto, washing the resultant composition by a nonpolar solvent and then extracting the residual insoluble matter by a polar solvent. CONSTITUTION:Vegetable seeds or embryo buds are roasted and subsequently treated with an enzyme in order to liberate a large amount of low molecular antiactive oxygen substances. A vegetable oil is added thereto to prepare a composition having an antiactive oxygen effect. The resultant composition is washed using a nonpolar solvent (benzene, n-hexane, ether, etc., are suitable) for removal of pigments and liposoluble substances and the residual insoluble matter is then extracted using a polar solvent (acetone or lower alcohol is suitable). The obtained extract is concentrated and evaporated to dryness, thus obtaining the objective composition concentrated to (1/10) or lower weight of that of the raw material composition. The above-mentioned composition has an inhibitory effect on active oxygen, a radical scavenging action found by the DPPH method, a lipoperoxide production-inhibitory effect, a prevention effect on rat ventricular irregular pulse and an antiinflammatory effect. |
