<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate a gap irregularity and a short circuit due to the sticking of dust caused by rubbing electrode surface sides patterned on an upper and a lower substrate in a constant direction by using a conductive material, and orienting a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the upper and lower substrates. CONSTITUTION:A film of ITO is formed on a 'Pyrex(R)' glass substrate 1 to 1,000Angstrom and then patterned in a matrix by photolithography to form electrodes, and a polyamide film is formed on the electrode side of the substrate 1 to 200Angstrom by an offset method and made into imide at 250 deg.C for 1hr to set. Then, a fiber woven with carbon fiber 'Torayca(R)' is wound around a cylinder to form a rubbing material 6 and then the surface of the substrate 1 is rubbed four times in the same direction under the pressure of the total weight of the rubbing material. Thus the substrates 1 and 2 are rubbed and set having the electrodes opposite each other at a necessary twist angle; and a glass fiber with 7mum thickness is used as a scattered material 7 and the substrates are sealed 8 with epoxy resin to assemble a cell, into which liquid crystal 3 is injected, thus manufacturing a liquid crystal display device.</p> |
