PURPOSE:To check the main current below the set point which flows in starting by giving to the switching element the drive signal whose signal value gradually increases in the period until the output voltage or output current gets to the predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:As the DC input is supplied to input terminals 1 and 1', a condenser 16 of a starting circuit 12 is charged through a resistance 15. The higher the charging voltage of the condenser 16 rises up, the higher does so the power source voltage of a control circuit 7. Receiving the control signal from the control circuit 7, the drive circuit 19 gives the driving signal with the signal value depending on the charging voltage of the condenser 16 to a switching element 2. During the period the control circuit 7 is supplying the control signal to the starting circuit 12, the switching element 2 is in 'off' condition. In starting, the switching element 2 is driven by the driving signal, of which the signal value gradually comes up, and is actuated in the active region.
