PURPOSE:To prevent an electrode from disintegration by pulverizing during repeated charge and discharge by mixing a specific amount of Ca or moreover Mg in an Al alloy to be used for a negative electrode material. CONSTITUTION:The Al alloy to be used fora Li secondary battery contains Ca of 0.1-10 wt% or further contains Mg of 5 wt% or less, and the residual thereof comprises Al and unavoidable impurities. By the addition of Ca, the charge and discharge cycle life is elongated, due to the decrease in the volume change in charge and discharge time. However, at Ca content of 0.1 wt% the effect is minor; on the contrary, at Ca content exceeding 10 wt% the material becomes so brittle that the mass productivity and the charge and discharge cycle life and reduced. On the other hand, Mg improves the strength of material and the charge and discharge cycle life. However, excessive content of Mg, exceeding 5 wt%, makes the material brittle and reduces the mass productivity and charge and discharge cycle life. |
