In order to keep the ends of ceramic port liners free from residual sand, which collects there during the production of the core, the proposal according to the invention is that a film is applied to the end face before the production of the core. After the core has hardened, the film can either be removed or remain in place, in which case it is burnt by the liquid melt when the port liner is subsequently surrounded by the latter. The adhering residual sand is then enclosed by the melt. This ensures that the end face of the ceramic port liner comes into contact with melt despite residual sand.
