PURPOSE:To enable prevention of sudden decrease of torque due to the stop of the feed of fuel both during completion of cold down and that of warming-up, by a method wherein, when a given deceleration running condition is detected, a delay time at which the feed of fuel is stopped is varied with an engine temperature. CONSTITUTION:An output signal from each of crank angle sensor 10 and an idle switch 8 is inputted to a control unit 11, it is decided whether a given deceleration running condition is satisfied. When it is decided that a given deceleration running condition is brought into a satisfied state, a delay time is retrieved from a map, stored in a ROM, according to a cooling water temperature detected by a water temperature sensor 12, and after the retrieved delay time lapses, the feed of fuel from a fuel injection valve 9 is stopped. The delay time is set to a valve which is increased as a cooling water temperature is increased. This constitution prevents the occurrence of a failure in ignition by preventing enrichment of air-fuel mixture concentration, and prevents sudden decrease of torque, produced during the stop of fuel, after completion of worming-up.
