摘要 PURPOSE:To improve hardness and toughness by molding and firing a mixture of aluminum boride with Al2O3 and a specified sintering aid. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of 15-95wt.% aluminum boride with 3-90wt.% (expressed in terms of Al2O3) Al2O3 or substance forming Al2O3 by firing and 0.1-8wt.% (expressed in terms of oxide) at least one kind of sintering aid selected among Mg, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and the group IIIa elements of the periodic table is molded and fired at 1,400-1,900 deg.C to obtain an Al2O3-based sintered body contg. 10-50wt.% Al, 1.5-67wt.% B and 0.1-8wt.% (expressed in terms of oxide) sintering aid and consisting of a principal phase of Al2O3 and a subsidiary phase contg. at least B and O.
