Charcoal is made by heating wood in a furnace fired by tar collected from the previous batch of wood, and recirculating combustible gas evolved by the wood. A furnace for carrying out the process is also claimed. A combustion chamber is housed in a vessel also holding four containers for wood to be carbonised. The base of the vessel collects wood tar, and has an outlet for it. A fan at the top of the combustion chamber forces combustion gases down through the containers. |
