A method for detection of radiation by means of an electron-multiplier instrument (1) with a microchannel plate (3) provides for retarding an electric field between the output electrode (6) of the plate (3) and the collector (4) by feeding to the collector (4) a voltage not exceeding that on the output electrode (6). The potential difference between a collector (4) and the output electrode (6) of the plate (3) does not exceed 1/4 of the potential difference between its input (5) and output (6) electrodes. A device for detection of radiation comprises an electron-multiplier instrument (1) with a micro-channel plate (3) and two constant voltage sources (8, 9). The negative pole of the source (8) is connected to the input electrode (6) of the plate (3), and the positive pole is connected to one of the poles of the source (9). The negative pole of the source (9) is connected to a collector (4) and its positive pole to the output electrode (6).
