PURPOSE:To easily obtain the subject compound in high purity by treating a mixture of 1,3-butanediol enantiomers with a specific microorganism. CONSTITUTION:Prescribed microorganisms are searched to obtain a microbial group (B) reactive to a mixture of 1,3-butanediol enantiomers (A), capable of leaving (R)-1,3-butanediol and belonging to genus Clavispora, Kloechera or Scizoblastosporin and a microbial group (C) reactive to the component A, capable of leaving (S)-1,3-butanediol and belonging to genus Eremascus, Syringospora, Sporopachyderma, Zygoascus or Zygozyma. A strain selected from the groups B and C is cultured in a medium containing glucose, urea, etc., at pH 3.0-9.5 and 20-45 deg.C for 5-120hr to obtain a cultured product (D). The component D is added to the component A, reacted at pH3-10 and 10-60 deg.C for 1-120hr and purified by extraction, column chromatography, etc., to obtain an optically active 1,3-butanediol. |
