A bone-stiffness measuring instrument comprises a set of readily assembled and adjusted components, namely a goniometer 16, a light-weight load cell 15, and a small computer 22 continuously responding to the outputs of the load cell and goniometer and to display and/or record (ie store) measured stiffness data when pressure P is applied by hand to the limb; plus hardware in duplicate, namely, a bone-screw clamp and bracket 19, 20 for fixing to bone-screws 11, 12 exposed on each side of the fracture (following removal of an external fixator), a stiff arcuate arm 37 of radius at least twice the diameter of the fractured bone, and a goniometer-end mount 17, 18. Each arcuate arm 37 is adjustably fixed through a bracket 19, 20. A single actuator (figs 9 - 10) releasably clamps each goniometer-end mount 17, 18 on an arcuate arm 17 and simultaneously locks a ball-joint for adjusting the orientation of an end of the goniometer 16. <IMAGE>
