PURPOSE: To simplify addition of a new network without physically increasing the interface of a router even when a network is newly added. CONSTITUTION: When the host connected with physical ports 33 to 40 perform the communication except the virtual LAN formed by grouping each port, a CPU for switch defines the MAC address of the router part 2 corresponding to the logical port for which the grouping to the same virtual LAN as a reception port is performed as a destination MAC address, adds a virtual LAN number to the packet and writes the packet in a buffer 22 for switch/router communication. A CPU 21 for router writes the packet written in the buffer 22 for switch/router communication in a buffer 23 for switch/router communication with the virtual LAN number. A CPU 31 for switch writes the packets written in the buffer 23 for switch/router communication in a buffer 32 for physical port transmission and reception and transmits the packets to the physical ports 33 to 40.
