The device has a housing (3) secured to a component via relatively spaced fixing screws (5) with a recess in the housing between the fixing screws filled with an elastic material (2), carrying an expansion detection element (1), providing an electrical output signal, on the side facing the component surface. The screws are tightened to press the expansion detection element against the component surface so that its expansion is transmitted to the expansion measuring element via a friction coupling.
