PREPARATION HYBRID AND F1 SEED OF PRAIRIE GENTIAN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the efficient preparation of a hybrid and F1 seed of prairie gentian which is an autogamous spermatophyte. SOLUTION: Cell or tissue piece of prairie gentian is infected with Agrobacterium rhizogenes or a microorganism originated from Agrobacterium rhizogenes and holding a recombinant vector integrated with a DNA fragment having a genetic information participating in the male sterility of prairie gentian. A male sterility prairie gentian regenerated from the induced hairy root is used as a pollination line and crossed with a male fertile prairie gentian used as a pollen-receiving line to obtain a hybrid prairie gentian. An F1 seed is prepared by the seed-setting of the hybrid plant.
