A package (1) for bulbs (11) comprises a plane blank (1'), designed to surround several bulbs. According to the invention, there is a blank and a blank section (1') respectively for each bulb, having a central field (12) with openings (7), through which the bulb sockets (32) are to be introduced. To said central fields (12), via transversal folding notches, lateral sections (14) are connected and also top sections (17), which are to overlap each other. Between each pair of openings (7) a multi-functional hole (22) is disposed, designed to receive a bulb socket portion, which projects from another package, stacked on top of the package. The invention also relates to a method of using such a package. A plane blank of corrugating cardboard is used for several packages (1) and/or several bulbs (11). The blank is transported from a reservoir (26) to a unit (27) designed to bring together several series of bulbs (11), in which unit the sockets (32) of the bulbs are inserted into and through the openings (7) in the central blank fields (12), subsequent to which lateral sections (14) and top sections (17) of the blanks are folded around the folding notches (13 and 16 respectively) and are secured to each other. The packages are stacked on top of each other, the multi-functional holes (22) in one layer receiving projecting bulb socket portions from an adjacent layer. |
