In an article transporting vehicle and its guiding system for use in e.g. an automated warehouse, a guide rail 11 of the guiding system is disposed underneath an article transfer platform 6,7,12,13 where an article is transferred to or from the vehicle 10. As the guide rail 11 does not project laterally from the platform 6,7,12,13, any other non-rail-guided vehicle 10 may make unobstructed access to the platform 6,7,12,13 for effecting an operation. In a disclosed embodiment, the drive wheel of the vehicle 10 is disposed at a center in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle 10 for enabling smooth vehicle traveling at a curved portion of the rail 11.
