The signal processing device detects the image errors in a video signal by comparing successive images with one another. The error detection device receives a scene change signal (CUT), allowing the individual images (N+1) of the compared images (N+1,N,N-1) to be replaced by the replacement images (N-2). The replacement image can be obtained from the subsequent images or the following images in the viewed image sequence.
