PURPOSE:To obtain stable discharge without necessitating electrodes, by wrapping the outer periphery of an inner discharge tube with a conducting plate, and applying a high speed pulse current to the conducting plate. CONSTITUTION:When a high speed pulse current is supplied to a conducting plate 16 from a terminal plate part 16a on the anode side, the current flows in the conducting plate 16 toward a terminal plate part 16b on the cathode side. Then discharging gas in the inner discharge tube 5 receives electric field action based on the above current, and stably discharges in the theta direction. The inner discharge tube 5 is heated by the discharge, metal grains 10 are fused, metal vapor is generated, and stable laser oscillation is obtained from the laser window 8. Hence metal vapor laser excellent in laser performance can be obtained. |
