Cold-starting method for automobile internal combustion engine

The cold-starting method uses steam, e.g. at a pressure of 2 bar and a temperature of 120 degrees C, for slow and uniform pre-heating of the engine block (1), with efficient heat transfer to the latter. The steam may be provided by an oil-fired steam generator and distributed via a steam lance with a number of spaced discharge jets, positioned beneath the engine oil sump. Auxiliary heating of the engine may be provided by a circulation pump for circulating the engine coolant water through a heat exchanger.
