摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a scintillator excellent in the reflection characteristics and adhesion of a reflector and having a high efficiency of transmitting scintillated by inserting a specified reflector leaf into cuts formed in a Bi4Ge3O12 crystal from a scintillation emitting surface thereof and providing a reflecting layer on the other surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Cuts 10 are formed in a Bi4Ge3O12 crystal 2 from its scintillation emitting surface 2a by, e.g. cutting with a cutter made by using free abrasive grains. A reflector leaf 11 (e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene tape) having a light reflectance of at least 90% at a wavelength of 480nm is inserted partly or fully into the cut 10, and a reflecting layer 3 is provided on the surfaces other than the surface 2a. A scintillator excellent in the reflection characteristics and adhesion of a reflector and having a high efficiency of transmitting scintillation is thus obtained. The mirror-finished surface 2a of the crystal 2 is joined to a photomultiplier 1 to give a radiation detector.
