POWER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR COMPUTER DEVICE INTERCONNECTION BUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide power management ability to a device interconnection bus with which a plurality of devices are connected.

SOLUTION: This power management system tracks the total power drawn from a bus by the bus and a device connected to the bus itself and the maximum power usable from the bus based on individual operational status of each device. Whether or not there is sufficient excess power for additionally operating the device is determined from the information. Efficient use of limited power is provided so that many devices are operated while maintaining draw of the total power within an allowable range.
