Provided are a novel method for preparing a polytetrahydrofuran or tetrahydrofuran copolymer having reduced functionality economically, and the use of a polytetrahydrofuran or tetrahydrofuran copolymer for preparing a polyurethane-urea polymer. A method comprises the step of polymerizing tetrahydrofuran to prepare polytetrahydrofuran or tetrahydrofuran copolymer, wherein a reaction mixture contains 0.001-5 wt% of at least one kind of linear aliphatic ether and the reaction is carried out in the presence of telogen and/or co-monomer on an acid catalyst. Preferably the catalyst is selected from bleaching earth, mixture metal oxide of a metal of group 3, 4, 13 and 14 of the periodic table, supported tungsten oxide or molybdenum oxide, heteropolyacid, acid ion exchanger, zeolite, sulfated zirconium and inorganic strong acid.
