PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sphere decoder for a maximum likelihood receiver intended to receive PPM symbols at M modulation positions from a plurality P of sources. SOLUTION: The point of the product constellation the closest to the received point is determined within a sphere of given quadratic radius and for each layer of rank (p), a ZF-DFE equalization of the signal received is carried out in the layer considering the PPM symbols estimated in the P-p previous layers, referred to as layers higher than the layer (p). In a list, the M PPM symbols of the layer are classified as a function of the contributions that they would make to the quadratic distance to the received point, the PPM symbol making the lowest contribution is selected, and this contribution is added to those obtained for the previous layers to obtain a sum of contributions.
