A sealing ring for sealing a machine part, e.g. a shaft, comprises a housing (1, 1a to 1f) to which is attached a sealing element (7, 7a to 7f) which is substantially rotationally symmetric, the sealing element including a sealing edge (10, 10a to 10f), at least over part of its periphery, and the sealing edge, when viewed in a projection onto an axial plane of the sealing ring, lies at an angle ( a ) deviating from 90{ to the seal axis (12).
