FIELD: wood processing. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cross cutting low-quality hardwood logs. The method involves longitudinal interrupted motion of a saw about stationary bunches of logs with measurement of sawn off sections of the bunch of logs. Before each sawing off, the saw is stopped, and at the end of sawing the saw is moved forward relative the sawn off section by a distance, equal to the length of the next sawn off section of the bunch of logs, after which the cycle of cross cutting is repeated until the end of the length of all logs in the bunch. At the end of sawing off the root part, the saw is moved forward relative the bunch of logs by a distance equal to the minimum length of the next sawn off the short-length valuable assortment of the chosen type, after which the cross cutting cycle is repeated until the end of the length of all logs in the bunch, with change of types of short-length valuable assortment or with the same length chosen for the root end of the bunch of logs of the short-length valuable assortment. Each type of short-length valuable assortments is separated from the other type and pieces of logs of the same type are put into a group with according to diametre class. Pieces of logs grouped according to thickness, permissible for the given type of short-length valuable assortment, are functionally assigned in form of short-length assortments as a final product for consumers of valuable types of assortments. ^ EFFECT: invention increases output of valuable short-length assortments when cross cutting bunches of wooden logs. ^ 8 cl |
