PURPOSE:To protect a multilayer piezoelectric element against damage and to reduce the cost and the size by supporting the multilayer piezoelectric element, at one end in the elongating/contracting direction perpendicular to the laminating direction, on a frame and driving an object based on the elongation/ contraction in the direction perpendicular to the laminating direction. CONSTITUTION:A multilayer piezoelectric element 40 comprises multiple layers of piezoelectric elements and contracts in the direction perpendicular to the laminating direction upon application of a voltage whereas elongates upon removal of voltage. The multilayer piezoelectric element 40 is fixed to a frame 52 comprising a main frame 48 and a subframe 50 arranged in the direction perpendicular to the laminating direction. Upon elongation of the multilayer piezoelectric element 40, a second leaf spring 66 is moved upward while resisting against a first leaf spring 64 and the leaf springs 64, 66 deform resiliently. Consequently, a coupling part 68 rotates counterclockwise and an arm 70 also rotates in same direction thus shifting a print wire 36 to a non-print position. |
