PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions and methods related to Tau oligomers and Tau oligomer-specific antibodies.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a monoclonal antibody or an antibody fragment that specifically binds to a Tau oligomer but not to soluble Tau or Tau fibril, a composition comprising the antibody and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, and a method for evaluating a patient suspected of or having a tauopathy. The method comprises a step of detecting the binding of the Tau oligomer-specific antibody to the components of a biological sample from the patient, where the detection of Tau oligomer in the sample indicates tauopathy. Also provided is a method for treating tauopathy comprising a step of administering an effective amount of the Tau oligomer-specific antibody to a subject having or suspected of having AD or other tauopathy.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
