PURPOSE:To enhance the accelerativeness in low speed operation and improve the rate of fuel consumption under high speed operation by providing the control of a lockup clutch to be slip controlled with a hysteresis region in the engine load direction, and decreasing the hysteresis region with increasing vehicle speed. CONSTITUTION:A torque converter concerned 1 includes a pump 5 coupled with the output shaft 3 of an engine 2, a turbine 6, a stator 7, and a lockup clutch 8. The revolutions of the turbine 6 are fed to a geared transmission 10. The working oil pressure of this lockup clutch 8 is controlled by a solenoid 12, and thereby the engaging state of the clutch 8 with a case 4 is controlled. The hysteresis region in the load direction of engine is so arranged as to decrease with increasing vehicle speed, and the converter region is wider in the low speed range while the slip region is wider in the high speed range. This improves the accelerativeness in low speed operation as well as enhances the rate of fuel consumption under high speed operation. |
