PURPOSE:To obtain a (hydro) cinnamic acid ester derivative from an aromatic compound and alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester in the presence of rhodium complex under irradiation of light in high productivity by using specific phosphoranes as a ligand of rhodium complex. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic compound having at least one hydrogen atom bonded to aromatic ring is reacted with alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester having at least one hydrogen atom bonded to beta-carbon in the presence of rhodium complex catalyst under irradiation of light to obtain cinnamic acid ester derivative and/or hydrocinnamic acid ester derivative useful as an intermediate of medical drug or agricultural chemical, etc. In said process, phosphoranes expressed by the formula (R<1> to R<9> are H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl) are used as at least a ligand in the rhodium complex to enhance catalyst activity and to efficiently obtain the aimed compound from raw materials of a low cost and readily available in high productivity. |
