PURPOSE:To obtain the highly sinterable powder composition capable of producing a high-density and high-strength zirconia sintered body by the atmospheric sintering method by adding a specified amt. of a stabilized zirconia powder to a suspension of an iron compd. in a solvent, removing the solvent and drying the powder. CONSTITUTION:The stabilized zirconia powder (e.g. zirconia powder partially stabilized with Y2O3) or the precursor powder capable of producing a stabilized zirconia powder on heating is added to a suspension of an iron compd. (e.g. iron hydroxide) in a solvent in 0.01-0.5% atomic ratio of Fe to Zr. The solvent is then removed, and the powder is dried to obtain a highly sinterable powder composition for producing a zirconia sintered body. A zirconia sintered body excellent in flexual strength, etc., is inexpensively produced from the composition by the atmospheric sintering method in a relatively low temp. range. |
