PURPOSE:To keep off any tertiary impact between a rider and a car body so effectively by installing each of air bags capable of taking a first state being expanded between a body inner wall and the rider and a second state larger than the former, and controlling the air bag at the impact side into a first spreading state, and the air bag at the opposite side into a second spreading state, respectively. CONSTITUTION:An air bag system is provided with a symmetrical pair of collision air bag units 4 installed each in symmetrical front doors 2 of an automobile 1, a pair of first impact detecting sensors 9A, 9B installed each in symmetrical doors 2, a pair of second impact detecting sensors 11A, 11B installed each in symmetrical side sills 10 and a control unit being energized with current to an igniter at the specified timing each. At this juncture, at time of a side collision, the air bag at the impact side is expanded between a car body inner wall and a rider, while the air bag at the opposite side is spread to be larger than that. |
