A hand press for crimping electrical conductors and also suitable for rivet setting, bending and forging, comprises a fluid-actuated piston 18 which transmits force through a block 28 and toggle linkage 46, 48 to a ram 6 such that the pressure exerted by the ram on crimping dies 12 is increased towards the end of the working stroke. The block 28 is mounted on parallel links 38 and moves the roller 54 on the toggle linkage first with a face 66 and then with a cam surface 68. A spring 62 urges the linkage towards its broken position and a pawl 70 prevents retraction of the ram before the end of the working stroke. The dies may be made suitable for double heading of rivets. |
