PURPOSE:To improve the fuel consumption rate in acceleration by compulsorily locking up an automatic transmission during the operation of a vehicle resonance reducing means for reducing the vehicle resonance accompanied with the engine operation by controlling the opening degree of a throttle valve in acceleration. CONSTITUTION:In an internal combustion engine for vehicle installed on an automatic transmission equipped with a lock-up mechanism, a vehicle resonance reducing means for reducing the vehicle resonance accompanied with the engine operation by controlling the opening degree of a throttle valve in acceleration and a lock-up control means for compulsorily locking up automatic transmission during the operation of the vehicle resonance reducing means are provided. During the period where the vehicle resonance reducing means operates to reduce the vehicle resonance, the lock-up control means executes lock-up and reduce the fuel consumption.
