[Also in Divisions G3 and H1] A programme-controlled laser beam post. tioning system, see Division G2-G3, wherein a narrow pencil beam of electromagnetic radiation is moved repeatedly round a closed path such configuration that the beam constantly intersects a preselected point, is used to irradiate brain tissue. As shown. Fig. 6 three ,beam scanning units 12, secured to a supporting frame 10, are attached to the head of a person who carries on his back a laser beam generating equipment 55. The units 12 and equipment 55 are interconnected by waveguides 27. The beam positioning signals for the units 12 are sup plied through a cable 56. At .the point of attachment of each unit 12 the shell 50, Fig. 5, is provided with a surgical aperture 51 in which is disposed a non-metallic plate 52 which is chemically inert and transparent to the beam of electromagnetic radiation. The curve of the plate is the converse to that of the skull to which it is bonded. The base 53 of the scanning unit 12 is attached by screws 54. |
