[Also in Division C7] Urea is synthesized by reacting ammonia and carbon dioxide at a high temperature and pressure in the presence of a limited amount of oxygen and the process is carried out in an apparatus made of a fully austenitic steel, which is resistant to corrosion by the molten ammonium carbamate intermediate product and comprises :- with the balance, apart from carbon and impurities, being iron, in which the amounts of Mn + N, Ni + Mo or Ni+Mn+N are sufficient to stabilize the austenitic structure of the alloy.</p> |
