Within the leading end of a shield and on the front of pressure tight transverse bulkhead as in the referred to Specification 19443/64 is rotatably mounted a cutterhead having a cutter armed leading face about the periphery of which are a series of circumferentially spaced buckets with which are associated discharge chutes leading through the interspace between the front and rear of the cutterhead, the chutes terminating in a central chamber of the head for removal by conveyer means extending from the chamber rearwards through the bulkhead to beyond the rear of the shield. |
