Monomeric, substantially anhydrous, lead acrylate and methacrylate are produced by reacting PbO or PbCO3 with free acrylic or methacrylic acid, respectively, in a solvent mixture comprising a water-insoluble component and a water-soluble component. The water-soluble component is one which can combine with water, e.g. by absorption or addition, and is completely miscible with the water-insoluble component. The solvent mixture is such that it can dissolve the free acid but not the lead salt which is produced. Examples are given. |
