A car door operating mechanism comprises a reversible electric motor 1 which acts on a rod 14 hinged to the door frame 16, via a worm 2, worm pinion 3, a sector gear 5, swing lever 7, cyclinder 8, rod 12 and universal joint 13, the action of the rod 14 opening or closing the door and the helix angles of the worm and worm pinion being sufficiently large for the worm pinion to transmit rotary movement to the worm, enabling the door to be opened and closed by hand with the output shaft of the motor rotated in so doing. Inside the cylinder 8 is a spring 10 which pushes against a piston 11 attached to the end of rod 12. A flexible shaft 21 extends between the cylinder and the door lock 22 and operates the lock when the door is in or near its closed position. The motor is controlled through a switch 24 and the door stopped at the end of its travel by limit switches 23, 23'. The door may be opened using a weak or strong force depending on the electrical circuit to the motor, the various circuits being indicated in Figs. 3-7 (not shown). |
